The Southwest Intertribal Court of Appeals (SWITCA)
Court Administration
General policy is set by the members and other participating tribes at quarterly meetings. SWITCA provides services as requested, but does not fund tribal courts directly.
Appellate judges appointed to tribal appellate courts are covered by the judicial immunity of the tribe and exercise only the judicial powers of the appointing tribe.
SWITCA is funded by the BIA through a "638" contract with Zuni Pueblo which, in turn, contracts with the American Indian Law Center, Inc., to administer the grant. The Court's offices are housed at the University of New Mexico School of Law and its mailing address is P.O. Box 4456, Station A, Albuquerque, NM, 87196. Additional information about SWITCA's services is available at (505) 277-5462.
