This course will cover pertinent in-depth areas of Advanced Tort law not covered within a basic Torts course offered in the first year law curriculum. Advanced Torts exposes student to causes of action that will be encountered early on in their practice. The areas covered in this course will be Products Liability, Economic Torts, Breach of Fiduciary Duty, Fraudulent and Negligent Misrepresentation, Tortious Interference with Contract and Prospective Contract, Attorney Malfeasance, Economic Torts, Liability Insurance and its Role in Personal Injury and Economic Tort Litigation, International Infliction of Emotional Distress, Defamation, and Privacy. Also addressed will be situations such as mass disasters and mass compensation systems, the Supreme Court's focus on punitive damages, the current mortgage implosion, and the prosecution/defending of mortgage foreclosures all of which have become increasingly complicated tort law.
