This course will prepare students for taking the New Mexico Bar exam by helping them develop legal analysis and issue spotting skills, essay writing skills and multiple choice test taking skills. Focus will be on the most frequently tested New Mexico subjects – federal jurisdiction/civil procedure, estates/wills/trusts, and family law/community property. Other topics may be covered as time permits. There will be an introduction to the format and components of the bar exam. Students will have weekly reading and writing assignments and will receive feedback on selected written assignments. In addition, students will touch on stress and time management skills. This is an experiential class which requires attendance (80%) and in addition, group work, peer review and self reflection (100% of assignments must be completed). Those who would benefit from significant assistance with essay writing and bar study skills are especially encouraged to take this course. This course is not intended to replace commercial bar review courses such as BarBri and Kaplan/PMBR.
