This course covers all aspects of obtaining or giving permission for the use of intellectual property. Clients who need to use patented or copyrighted information in their own businesses or clients who hope to benefit from the licensing of intellectual property that they have created will benefit from the expertise gained in this course. A basic working knowledge of intellectual property, while helpful, is not required; an overview of the various areas of intellectual property will be provided in the first few classes. The course will explore both the critical elements of a licensing agreement and the essential steps in negotiation of a licensing agreement. Federal regulations and issues related to ownership of IP will play a role in the course. The course grade will be determined by performance on written exercises and/or a final examination.
