  • Oil and Gas Contracts

  • Course Description
    Prerequisite: Oil and Gas Law

Oil and Gas Contracts is an advanced course dealing with the standard contracts that govern the exploration for, development and production of oil and gas resources following the execution of the oil and gas lease by the mineral owner. The course examines the purpose, structure, terms and court interpretations of these basic contracts, including the drilling contract, the joint operating agreement, the farmout agreement, division orders and gas sale agreements, and contracts for the assignment of producing properties. Particular attention is given to how contract law, property law, tort law, and government regulations have been blended in these instruments to assign risks among the parties and provide adequate options that will protect the parties interests in the short- and long-term. Specific contract forms are examined in detail to give the student a working knowledge of these agreements and the transactions they govern.
