A member of the UNM School of Law’s first graduating class of 1950, Richard Civerolo became a leading trial lawyer and founded an Albuquerque law firm that still bears his name. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II and participated in the D-Day Invasion.
He represented St. Joseph’s and St. Vincent’s hospitals for more than 30 years and was involved in developing the New Mexico Medical Malpractice Act. He has served as president of the American Board of Trial Advocates, New Mexico Defense Lawyers Association and the Albuquerque Lawyers Club.
He received two Distinguished Bar Service Awards from the State Bar of New Mexico, as well as a New Mexico State Bar Service Award for work that improved the status and image of the legal profession and administration of justice. He also received the New Mexico Supreme Court Certificate of Appreciation for his service to the judiciary.
He has devoted many years to serving the community through his work with the New Mexico Cancer Society, the Medical Review Commission and the New Mexico Disabled American Veterans. In 2007, he established the Richard C. Civerolo Family Endowed Scholarship at the UNM School of Law.
