Nearly 300 members of the UNM Law School community and the New Mexico legal community gathered at the Law School to celebrate the official naming of classroom 2404 as the “Leo M. Romero Classroom” in honor of former Dean and Professor Emeritus Leo M. Romero on September 10, 2014.
Formerly the “Moot Courtroom,” the circular room has been used for ceremonies, competitions, and as a classroom, and has played a significant role in turning law students into practicing lawyers and judges.
The naming of the classroom comes as part of an extremely generous financial gift that Professor Romero and his wife Robin have given to the law school. One portion of their most recent larger major gift is the $125,000 lead gift to the Annual Fund for Law – Student Scholarships. The other portion of their major gift has established the Leo M. and Robin C. Romero Endowment for Student Support at the UNM School of Law.
Introductions and comments were made by Dean David Herring, Assistant Dean for Advancement Hannah Farrington Parker, the Romeros, and Emeritus Professor Ted Occhialino, the Romeros’ friend for over 40 years. The speakers referred to Leo’s many achievements and the contributions he has made in legal education. They also addressed the enduring support and guidance both Leo and the law school have enjoyed from Robin Romero.
