Renee Black, a respected lawyer in Colorado's Roaring Fork Valley, died unexpectedly in late July. She was 50.
Black, a resident of Carbondale, Colo., earned her bachelor's degree in metallurgical engineering at the University of Idaho and a J.D. in 1989 from the UNM School of Law, after which she moved to western Colorado. She practiced law in Eagle and Garfield counties, most recently as legal counsel for the Roaring Fork Transportation Authority. She also volunteered for the Colorado Legal Aid Society.
Black was known as an expert chef who also enjoyed hiking, camping, reading and traveling.
