Lanny Messersmith

Lanny Messersmith, a longtime Albuquerque lawyer, died in early April 2010. He was 67.

Born in Oklahoma, Messersmith grew up in Albuquerque, earning his J.D. in 1969 from the University of New Mexico School of Law.

After working as an assistant district attorney and assistant U.S. attorney, in 1974, he went into private practice.

In 1984, he was appointed the honorary consul for the Federal Republic of Germany, a position he held proudly until his death.

Messersmith was a member of the Ballut Abyad Shrine Temple and of Temple 6 Masonic Lodge. Whenever he could, he spent time on his sailboat, Jolly Mon, off the California coast.
