Craig Othmer

Craig Othmer, a lawyer at Los Alamos National Laboratory, died in December after a battle with cancer. He was 63.

Othmer lived in Santa Fe, where he served on numerous boards, including Catholic Charities, St. Francis School and St. Michael's High School.

He was born in Omaha, Neb. and moved to Albuquerque when he was 11. In 1968, he earned a B.S. in civil engineering from the University of New Mexico. He served as an officer with the U.S. Navy in Vietnam and elsewhere before returning home to attend the UNM School of Law. He earned his J.D. in 1974.

Othmer practiced law in Washington, D.C., where he met his wife, Sheila Brown. In 1982, they moved to Santa Fe, where he established his own practice. Later, he joined the Sommer law firm and remained there until going to work for LANL in 2001.

He was active in the New Mexico State Bar and American Bar Association.
