Practice Area/Practice Setting Panels

Each semester, the Office of Career Services hosts panels designed to expose current students to the variety of career options available to our graduates. Please contact us if one of you would like to serve on a panel as a practice area expert or to discuss your office’s work environment.

Leadership and Business Skills Workshops

The University of New Mexico School of Law is committed to developing lawyers as leaders and recognizes that non-legal skills have an important role to play in the success of our graduates. Contact us if you would like to speak to our students regarding leadership and business skills. Of particular interest are the following:

  • finance and accounting;
  • leadership and organization design;
  • strategic decision-making;
  • competitive advantage and business development.

Mock Interviews

Each year the office collaborates with the Young Lawyer’s Division of the New Mexico State Bar to conduct a mock interview program that offers valuable professional development and job search skills to current students. Student and attorney participants uniformly report great enjoyment from participating in the program. Additionally, throughout the year, the office regularly needs alumni to help with individual mock interviews. Contact us if you are interested in conducting a mock interview of a current student.

Law Advisor Directory

We invite you to participate in a new initiative designed to connect University of New Mexico School of Law students and alumni with their single greatest source of opportunity: an interactive, alumni and friend-based professional network.

The UNM Law Advisor Directory is designed to benefit both students and alumni. Students will be able to connect with alumni and other legal partners in the practice areas and geographies that interest them. The adviser can make a meaningful impact on the professional development of our students, increase their post-graduate marketability and likelihood of establishing a satisfying career.

The time commitment to participate in the new UNM Law Advisor Directory is fairly minimal:

  • Complete the short online registration form (it takes less than 2 minutes to complete).
  • Be willing to meet briefly (20-30 minutes) just a few times a year with UNM Law students and alumni to share your insight and advice regarding your practice.

We hope you will participate in this exciting and rewarding initiative.

More about Alumni at UNM School of Law

Share Your Story

Current students are eager to learn more about the endless career paths available to them as graduates of the University of New Mexico School of Law. We continually seek to educate our students about potential opportunities by featuring the stories of graduates on the Career Paths section of our website. We need examples of professionally satisfied graduates in all areas of law as well as in alternative legal careers. Please consider being a resource for current students: share your story and click on the News About You form.

Alumni as Employers

The single greatest way to enhance a student or graduates career is to offer them experience. There are a variety of ways in which alumni who are in a position to offer employment can connect with students and fellow alumni. Additionally, for public sector employers, recruitment services are available to promote externship-for-credit opportunities.

Job Board

Immediate openings for law clerk or attorney positions can be advertised year-round on our online job board. Visit our job board webpage to learn how easy it is to promote opportunities with your office.

Recruiting Programs

Each year, the Office of Career Services hosts a Fall and Spring Recruiting Program. In addition to on campus interviews, we offer application forwarding and direct contact services. If your organization is interested in participating in our upcoming recruiting program, visit our recruiting program webpage.
