About the Clinic

Clinic Course Descriptions

The core mission of UNM Law School is to prepare students to enter the legal profession with the skills and values needed to excel in a rapidly changing legal environment. A key component of that mission is the hands-on legal experience provided to every law student through our nationally recognized Clinical Law Programs. By serving low income clients through our Clinics, law students may devote themselves to improving access to justice in New Mexico. The clinical experience enables students to begin assuming their professional responsibilities as attorneys to provide legal services to underrepresented individuals, families, and communities. Students develop skills in empathetic and effective communication with clients, drafting legal pleadings, litigating, and legal analysis and writing. The clinical experience is one of the most fulfilling aspects of the juris doctorate program and an opportunity for students to put their theoretical coursework to practical use.
