Clinical Law Programs
Our Clients
The Clinic Director
I am very proud to serve as the Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs at UNM. In addition to recognition our programs have received for educational excellence, we have a major impact on our communities and our clients.
The outreach projects designed by our students and faculty have educated individuals about their legal rights. Our clinical programs are unique in that our student practice rules allows students to represent clients under attorney supervision, before they are licensed attorneys. Additionally, the classroom component of clinic provides students the skills and confidence they need through role-playing, presentations, and collaboration with faculty and fellow students.
Recently, clinic students have reunited children with their parents, collected substantial child support, processed bankruptcies, helped clients adopt children, and established paternity. Students have helped small businesses get off the ground and created non-profit corporations. They have represented clients in their divorces and drafted client wills. Our students have obtained orders of protection for victims of domestic violence and helped parents work with the schools to meet the educational needs of their children.
At UNM, students sit in the first chair, making decisions with the support and guidance of their faculty supervisor. This early practice exposure coupled with classroom skills training is unique.
