Business and Tax Clinic
While in law school at Georgetown, I had the privilege of working under April Land, who is now a UNM faculty member, in the Harrison Institute's Housing and Community Development Clinic. After law school, I practiced tax and estate planning law at large law firms in Indiana and Colorado for nine years. I believe that my clinical experience was instrumental in helping me to succeed and ultimately make partner at my law firm in Denver. Specifically, my clinical experience taught me how to practice law and how to serve the community. I learned legal skills that made me a better lawyer, skills that you can only learn by "practicing" law. These are skills that you cannot get from books alone. I also never forgot that a good lawyer must remain committed to involvement in the community. This commitment led me to work closely with such wonderful organizations as Girls Inc. of Metro Denver and YouthBiz. Through these organizations, I was able to help people in need, make friends, and develop my reputation as a trusted advisor. My goal in the Business and Tax Clinic is to pass along some of these same skills to a new generation of law students.
