Registration

Registration instructions for law students deviate from regular University procedures. Students are notified by Email about each semester’s requirements and deadlines by the School of Law Registrar’s Office. Detailed registration information is made available by the Law School Registrar.

During the Fall semester of the first year, each student is assigned to a faculty member for purposes of academic advisement. Students retain their faculty advisors for the remainder of their time in Law School. However, students may change advisors after the first year with the permission of their new advisor. The student shall notify the School of Law Registrar of the change. If an advisor becomes unavailable, the Registrar shall reassign students to a new advisor. Visiting and Transfer students will be assigned to one of the Associate Deans for academic advisement. The Dean shall designate a period during the Spring semester of each year as "advisement week".

Each advisor arranges to meet with his/her advisees during advisement week. Students receive advisement during their first and second years. No student is bound by the advice received and is free to enroll in any courses subject to existing academic regulations.

Students must take the full first-year curriculum. The first semester requires a full load, but first-year students may take an elective during their second semester. First-year students are encouraged to meet with their advisor at the end of the first semester to discuss taking an elective during the second semester of their first year.

Registration is not complete until tuition and fees are paid or cleared through the Bursar’s Office on the University of New Mexico main campus. Detailed information on procedures, processes, and deadlines are made available each semester from the Registrar’s Office at the School of Law. Students are required to satisfy all financial obligations due the University before registering for a new semester. For detailed information check with the School of Law Registrar’s Office or the Main Campus Admissions Office.
