Mary Ann Burmester is an attorney at Atkinson & Kelsey, P.A., the oldest and largest divorce and family law firm in the state. She has practiced family law for more than twenty years and is a Board recognized specialist in Family Law. She specializes in Collaborative Divorce (of particular note as this is an important, newly emerging area of specialization in the family law area), Divorce for in the Golden Years, Kinship/Guardianship, and Litigation/Trials. Ms. Burmester has amassed a national record of service contributing to her reputation in the field. She is a former member of the governing Council of the General Practice, Solo & Small Firm Section of the ABA, and has chaired the Section's Leadership Conference and the Family Law Core Group. She has also served as a member of the ABA's Law Practice Management Section and the Family Law Section's Military SIG "Operation Standby." Locally, her record of service includes serving in a variety of roles for the State Bar of New Mexico including serving on the Board of Directors of its Family Law Section and Elder Law Section, and serving as a member of its Legal Services & Programs Committee, its Committee on Women and the Legal Profession and mentoring newly admitted attorneys under its Bridge the Gap program. She is also a former Board member and Past President of the New Mexico Women's Bar Association. She was a recipient of the first annual NM Business Weekly's "40 Under 40" award, and the first annual UNM Anderson School of Business's "Up & Comers" award. She has made numerous presentations and is a published author in several national and state professional publications. She earned her Juris Doctor degree from Washington and Lee School of Law and holds a Masters degree in Gerontology.
