I teach law because of the critical presence law has in the everyday lives of indigenous peoples. Literally thousands of laws regulating Indian tribes have been passed. To teach students to understand this law helps to counter its sheer overwhelming presence. Teaching students to seriously consider the law of indigenous peoples provides a counter-narrative and is a privilege, a responsibility and a reward in itself.
