Study Art Law in Egypt During Winter Intersession

The great civilization of Egypt, with its pharaohs and remarkable cultural artifacts, has captivated the world for centuries. For two weeks during the UNM holiday break, UNM Law Professor Sherri Burr will present classes for lawyers and law students on how Egypt and International Law protect this rich heritage. The unique program will take place from Dec. 29, 2009-Jan. 12, 2010 in Egypt, and will offer 24 general CLE credits for practicing lawyers or two class credits for UNM law students.

During the two-week course, Burr will focus on legal issues associated with the international movement of art and cultural property to and from Egypt. The course will explore individual and group ownership in items of community significance during tours of Egyptian artistic, architectural and cultural property sites, including the Great Pyramids and Sphinx of Giza, the Temple of Luxor and a variety of museums.

This is a unique opportunity for adventurous lawyers and students to learn, tour and travel together as part of an international group CLE. Please be sure to attend one of the two pre-travel information sessions to fully understand trip details and accommodations. Travel accommodations may range from 3- to 5-star hotels (double occupancy). A highlight will be a five-night, five-star cruise down the Nile, during which participants will gain an authentic first-hand experience of Egypt and its role at the crossroads of world cultures and religions. Throughout the trip, participants will have the opportunity to interact with Egyptians and other North Africans.
