Young Lawyers Match Up with Law Students for Mentoring
Room 2401 was buzzing with get-acquainted conversation recently when about 40 law students met about 40 lawyers in an orientation for the State Bar's Young Lawyers Division and UNM School of Law Mentorship Program.
Each law student was matched with a mentor who will provide them with a glimpse into the profession during the next year. Before the hour-long orientation ended, students set a few professionalism goals they would like to meet before the year is over. More on Mentoring
A Summer at the Department of State
When James Moffitt was serving as the ship's intelligence officer aboard the USS Honolulu in the Pacific Ocean, he recognized that policy was made at a much higher level than aboard his submarine.
"Of the five things that most interested me when I was a lieutenant in the Navy," he says, "the Department of State was at the top." This interest is what directed him to the UNM School of Law — to learn about the law, where policies are made.
