Professor Mike Norwood New Associate Dean of Clinical Affairs

July 8, 2009

Professor Michael Norwood

Professor Michael Norwood has been appointed associate dean of clinical affairs and will assume the position on July 1.

Since joining the UNM law faculty in 1971, he has focused much of his teaching and scholarship on clinical education, and previously he served as clinical director from 1983-1992.

Currently, Norwood centers his work in children's advocacy, technology law and computer applications, and is most interested in developing sustainable, community-oriented law clinics.

Norwood's interest in children's advocacy stems from his clinical work with the University of New Mexico School of Medicine's FOCUS Project, which is dedicated to the prevention of child abuse and neglect.

He has been at the forefront of computer technology at the law school since his first stretch as clinical director and it continues to be central to his research and teaching.

His work in computer technology includes service as the inaugural research scholar at the Centre for Computer Technology and Law at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, Scotland. He is also a member of Board of Directors of the Center for Computer Aided Legal Instruction (CALI) and is a past president of CALI.
