Joe Garcia, president of the National Congress of American Indians, presented the keynote address during Indian People, Indian Law, the 14th annual academic convocation and gathering of communities at the UNM School of Law. Garcia is a member of Ohkay Owingeh (formerly San Juan Pueblo) and chair of the All-Indian Pueblo Council.
The event honors the school's Native American students, Indian Law students, Tribal Law Journal staff and members of the Native American Law Students Association. A special recognition is also given to the families and communities who support these students.
The National Congress of American Indians is the nation's largest organization of American Indian tribes.
