Professor Eileen Gauna was invited to testify before the U.S. Congress' Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming on Oct. 18. The title of the hearing was, "Energy and Global Warming Solutions for Vulnerable Communities."
Gauna's testimony addressed the global warming impacts facing low-income communities and communities of color. She discussed how legislation should protect vulnerable communities, and highlighted several specific issues for Congress to consider as it develops strategies to reduce green house gas, respond to changing climate conditions and achieve energy independence. The hearing testimony will assist both houses of Congress as they reconcile their energy bills into a workable piece of global warming legislation.
