UNM Law Professor Louis Caldera has been named director of the White House Military Office by President-elect Barack Obama. In that position, he will coordinate all military support for White House operations, which will include overseeing Air Force One, Marine One, Camp David and all overseas presidential visits.
Caldera is a former U.S. Army secretary who served as UNM's president from 2003 to 2006. After stepping down, he joined the UNM law faculty as a tenured professor. He is a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and earned business and law degrees from Harvard University, and has enjoyed a distinguished career in the military, the legal profession, public service and academia.
