DeAnza Valencia has been named one of the New Mexico Business Weekly's 40 under Forty, "the next generation of leaders who will shape the state's future."
The weekly newspaper solicits nominations from across New Mexico for individuals who stand out in their fields and are engaged in their communities trying to make New Mexico a better place to live.
A committee of '40 Under Forty' alumni reviews and judges nominees on their professional accomplishments, leadership, and community activities.
Prior to attending the UNM School of Law, Valencia assisted New Mexico small businesses through her role as the New Mexico director of the NASA-funded Space Alliance Technology Outreach Program and through her policy work as the national communications manager for the Surface Transportation Policy Project.
She has also served as staff to U.S. Sen. Jeff Bingaman, the Arizona House of Representatives and the New Mexico Senate. Valencia holds two undergraduate degrees from New Mexico State University and a master's degree from the School of Justice Studies at Arizona State University.
