Professor Jose L. Martinez to Receive MALSA Award

Jose MartinezMALSA will present the 2010 Fighting for Justice Award to UNM Law Professor Jose L. Martinez at its annual Fighting for Justice Banquet on April 10 at Doubletree Albuquerque.

Martinez has been a driving force in the UNM School of Law Clinical Law Program and a trail blazer in creating an opportunity to benefit both the local area indigent community while offering pragmatic legal education experiences to law students. He has dedicated his career to improving legal access to low-income community members and improving the standards for clinical legal education for students.

Cruz ReynosoCruz Reynoso will be the keynote speaker. Reynoso was on the UNM law faculty when Martinez joined the faculty. Reynoso went on to become an associate justice on the California Supreme Court. He currently is on the faculty of the University of California at Davis School of Law. In 2000, he was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian honor, for his lifelong devotion to public service.

The evening will begin at 6 p.m. with a cocktail hour and silent auction, followed by dinner at 7 p.m. Cost is $70 per person or $125 per couple. A table that seats 10 costs $550 or a half table of five is $325.
