The UNM School of Law team of Corinne Hale (`11), Alice Kilborn (`11) and Andy Scholl (`11), advanced to the semi-final round before losing by one ballot point at the National Trial Competition in Tulsa, OK. A second team of Kitren Fischer (`10), Kevin Holmes (`10) and Charles Kalm (`10) also performed impressively at the February regional competition.
The case they tried involved a complex evidence battle raising hearsay problems, subsequent remedial measures and "prior bad acts." The issue was whether the death by shotgun wound to the abdomen of the plaintiff's husband was a suicide or an accident. Both teams were coached by Brent Bailey and Steve Scholl (`89), with the Albuquerque law firm of Dixon, Bailey & Scholl.
The annual mock trial competition is sponsored by the Texas Young Lawyers Association in conjunction with the American College of Trial Lawyers.
