Tom Saenz, president of the Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund (MALDEF), spent an hour visiting with UNM law students in mid-September. During an informal discussion, Saenz talked about MALDEF's work fighting Arizona's new controversial immigration law and other timely issues. He was in Albuquerque to participate in a New Mexico Hispanic Bar Association CLE class.
Saenz has been a champion of civil rights his entire career. In 2009, he was selected as one of Hispanic Business Magazine's "100 Top Influentials". He was born and raised in southern California and received his law degree from Yale Law School.
His visit to the UNM School of Law was organized by MALSA.
