First-place winners are, l-r, Karl Jarvis, Jon Ellison, Bruce Ellison and Judge Stan Whitaker (`89).
For the second year in a row, the fairways were filled to capacity for the Summer Golf Classic, hosted by the University of New Mexico School of Law Alumni Association. For the 10th anniversary year, the fundraising event returned to the UNM Championship Golf Course.
Golfers raised more than $17,000 for scholarships at the school. New this year was a Betting Circle, where Taylor Watrous (`12), an alumni association scholarship recipient, and Larissa Breen (`12), challenged golfers to drive their balls into the circle. The circle raised nearly $700. Rachel Giron (`14), another scholarship recipient, also attended the event.
The afternoon began with a buffet lunch and time to loosen up on the practice tees and putting green. Golfers teed off in foursomes, returning to the clubhouse for a 19th Hole Reception, where they relaxed and winners were announced. Taking top honors was the team of Bruce Ellison, Jon Ellison, Karl Jarvis and Judge Stan Whitaker (`89).
Second place went to the team of Adam Baca, Kevin Duda, John Habing and Ken Redwine. Taking third place was the team of Matt Durkovich (`08), Jason Geisinger, Robert Gentile (`08) and Michael Hughes (`08).
The UNM School of Law would like to thank the firm of Dixon, Scholl & Bailey for serving as the tournament sponsor.
