U.S. District Court Judge James Parker to Speak at Graduation

Judge James ParkerThe Honorable James A. Parker, senior judge of the U.S. District Court for the District of New Mexico, will present the commencement address at the University of New Mexico School of Law on May 12. The ceremony will begin at 1 p.m. at the law school.

Judge Parker was appointed to the federal bench in 1987; he served as chief judge from 2000-2003. Prior to joining the bench, he was in private practice at Modrall Sperling.

He earned his J.D. from the University of Texas School of Law, where he was articles editor on the Texas Law Review. He earned his undergraduate degree from Rice University.

Judge Parker is a member of the Dean’s Circle, a prestigious giving society at the UNM School of Law, and he served on the school’s Board of Visitors from 1998-2003. He has received a number of awards for his judicial service, including the Courageous Judiciary Award by the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers in 2001. Judge Parker joined the Roehl Circle of Honor in 2011.

A reception will follow the commencement ceremony.
