Campus Visits Scheduled for Dean Candidates

Provost Chaouki Abdallah has invited four finalists for the dean of the UNM School of Law to visit campus over the weeks of March 4th and March 18th.  The candidates will meet with faculty, staff, students, alumni and community members during their visits.

The Dean Candidates are:

Alfred MathewsonAlfred Mathewson – Professor of Law and Acting Director of Africana Studies at the University of New Mexico.  Professor Mathewson received his J.D. from Yale University.  He served as Associate Dean for Academic Affairs from 1997-2002 and is currently the Henry Weihofen Chair in Law. Professor Mathewson will interview on March 4-5th. Professor Mathewson will give a presentation to the Law School community on Monday, March 4th from 3:30-5:00 in room 2402


Barbara BergmanBarbara Bergman – Professor of Law and Interim Dean of the School of Law at the University of New Mexico.   Professor Bergman received her J.D. from Stanford Law School.  She has served as Interim Dean since October 2012 and previously served as Associate Dean for Academic Affairs from 2008-2012. Professor Bergman will interview on March 6-7th. Professor Bergman will give a presentation to the Law School community on Wednesday, March 6th from 3:15-4:45 in room 2401.


Melanie WilsonMelanie Wilson – Professor of Law and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at the University of Kansas.  Professor Wilson received her J.D. from University of Georgia graduating magna cum laude.   She also served as a Senior Administrative Fellow at the University of Kansas from 2012-2013. Professor Wilson will interview on March 18-19th. Professor Wilson will give a presentation to the Law School community on Monday, March 18th from 3:30-5:00 in room 2402.


David HerringDavid Herring – Professor of Law and Co-Director of the Clinic Programs at the University of Pittsburgh.  Professor Herring received his J.D. from University of Michigan graduating magna cum laude.  He also served as Dean from 1999-2005, Interim Dean from 1998-1999 and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs from 1996-1998 at University of Pittsburgh.  Professor Herring will interview on March 21-22nd. Professor Herring will give a presentation to the Law School community on Thursday, March 21st from 3:15-4:45 in room 2401.


All four candidates will hold open forums with Staff, Student and Faculty, as well as have an open presentation open to Staff, Students, Faculty, Alumni and Community Members.  These dates, times and locations will be announced soon.
