The National Federation of Press Women announced that ARTS TALK has won two national awards. ARTS TALK is a local-cable television show produced by UNM Law Professor Sherri Burr and students in her Entertainment Law class. After receiving first place in New Mexico in the Talk Show category, ARTS TALK competed with other state winners and took second place in the national contest for “Talk Show”. The award was for an interview with author Melody Groves on her book, Bars of the Southwest, that was co-hosted by third year law student Jeffrey Mitchell. UNM law students Loya Henderson, Aaron D. Jim Jr., Matt Landess, Morgan Maddoux, Mari Martinez, Logan Migliore and Mathew Wadsworth were in the audience.
ARTS TALK was also awarded first place in New Mexico in the “Interview (Television or Radio)” category, and went on to take third place in the national contest. The accolade was awarded for an interview with Don Bullis and Slim Randles, in which they discussed their respective books, New Mexico Historical Biographies and Cowboy Wisdom. UNM law students Brian Decker, Seth Grant, Aaron D. Jim Jr. and Jeffrey Mitchell were in the audience.
Along with all those working directly with Prof. Burr and through the dedication of Cheryl Francisco and her staff, and coordination and support provided from Assistant Dean Cindy Johnson and Associate Dean Carol Parker, ARTS TALK has ascended from an honorable mention at the state level to a nationally recognized program.
