UNM School of Law Professor Nathalie Martin Co-Authors Yoga for Lawyers

Yoga for Lawyers

Lawyers are twice as likely to be alcoholics than the general population, and three times more likely to suffer a heart attack. Now a short, user-friendly yoga book written by lawyers can help lawyers de-stress. Yoga for Lawyers: Mind-Body Techniques to Feel Better All the Time is co-authored by University of New Mexico School of Law Professor Nathalie Martin and Hallie Love.

Martin is the Frederick M. Hart Chair in Consumer and Clinical Law at the University of New Mexico School of Law and has practiced yoga for many years in order to better balance the demands of teaching, scholarship, practicing law. Love is an award-winning yoga teacher with over thirty years of Pilates, yoga and dance training and more than ten years as a practicing attorney.

“This book is a culmination of many years of practicing yoga, experience with many forms of meditation, and a sudden realization that yoga and meditation make practicing and teaching law easier and more enjoyable,” says Martin. “While I originally turned to yoga and meditation to relieve stress, these ancient practices also improve concentration and help keep one’s emotions in check. I truly believe that yoga is for every body, every mind, and every heart. I am grateful that Hallie and I have this opportunity to share our love of yoga and its benefits with other lawyers.”

Yoga for Lawyers focuses on effective ways to de-stress every day, throughout the day, in very little time. The featured meditative yoga techniques and safe therapeutic yoga stretches are healthy ways to relieve stress. The book was developed to not only help lawyers improve their law practice by sharpening their ability to concentrate and bettering their overall state of mind, but to improve other aspects of their lives, including personal relationships.
