Community Activities

MALSA is also active in the community through projects aimed at promoting awareness of minority issues, protecting the rights of minorities, and supporting the educational advancement of minority youth.

  • LSAT Preparation Seminar
In an attempt to increase minority enrollment at the law school, MALSA members travel to universities throughout New Mexico to administer a practice Law School Admission Test (LSAT) and seminar for students considering a legal career.
  • Outreach Programs
To encourage more minority youth to continue their education, MALSA hosts a mentorship night where high school and undergraduate students have a chance to interact with Hispanic law school faculty and students.

MALSA maintains strong community ties with organizations such as the Hispano Round Table, the Mexican Consulate and the New Mexico Hispanic Bar Association (NMHBA). The NMHBA is a long-time supporter of MALSA and each year a MALSA member is elected to serve as a liaison between the NMHBA and MALSA.

  • New Mexico Hispanic Bar Association Mentorship Program
The NMHBA provides a mentorship program where Hispanic attorneys mentor MALSA members.

MALSA also receives strong support from the legal community and from many of its alumni who include some of the state’s most distinguished judges, lawmakers, attorneys, and community leaders.
