The purpose of this organization is to advocate for and educate law students regarding intellectual property matters. We do this by:
Law pertaining to property that derives from the work of the mind or intellect, specifically, an idea, invention, trade secret, process, program, data, formula, patent, copyright, or trademark or application, right, or registration. Attorneys do not need any kind of technical degree, special education, or passing an additional bar exam to practice IP Law, except if they wish to practice Patent Law.
UNM Law School offers a wide array of intellectual property courses, including Patent Law, Intellectual Property Law, Art Law, Copyright Law, Entertainment Law, and Information Technology and the Law.
The University of New Mexico School of Law and University of New Hampshire School of Law, consistently ranked in the top five law schools in the country for patent law and intellectual property law, have established an exchange program where students pay home institution tuition but enroll in classes at the host institution.
Each year in August, UNM law students attend Loyola University’s Patent Law Interview Program in Chicago, where more than 400 IP Law firms seek new hires.
