Allison H. Block-Chavez (’14) Sworn In as 140th President of the State Bar of New Mexico

Allison H. Block-Chavez (’14), a partner at Aldridge, Hammar & Wexler, P.A., was sworn in as the 140th President of the State Bar of New Mexico on December 10, 2025, assuming the role following Aja N. Brooks.
The swearing-in ceremony took place at the New Mexico Supreme Court, bringing together members of the judiciary, State Bar leadership, and legal professionals from across the state to celebrate Block-Chavez’s leadership and service to the profession.
Block-Chavez shared, “It is an incredible honor to step into this new role, and one I do not take lightly. I view my role as one about service, stewardship, and the quiet, steady work that keeps our legal system strong, credible, and worthy of public trust. No one arrives in a role like this alone. I am deeply grateful for the mentors, colleagues, friends, and community who invested in me, challenged me, and walked alongside me throughout my career.”
At the firm where she partners, Aldridge, Hammar & Wexler, P.A., Block-Chavez’s legal practice focuses on estate planning, trust administration, probate matters, real estate, and creditors’ rights. She graduated from the UNM School of Law in 2014 and later served as a judicial law clerk to Chief Judge Michael E. Vigil of the New Mexico Court of Appeals.
“I feel especially fortunate to be a graduate of the University of New Mexico School of Law. The small, close-knit community fostered meaningful relationships, deep collaboration, and a strong connection to New Mexico’s legal community that continues to shape my professional life today. I treasured my involvement in the Mexican American Law Students Association and the Women’s Law Caucus, spaces that nurtured leadership, advocacy, and belonging. I also had the opportunity to found the Women’s Golf Association and to serve as the Lobby Committee chair within the Graduate and Professional Student Association. Those leadership experiences taught me how to listen, build consensus, organize people around shared goals, and lead with empathy; skills that directly prepared me for bar leadership,” she said.
Her presidency begins at a pivotal moment for the State Bar as it celebrates 140 years of service to New Mexico’s legal community.
“I am grateful for the foundation UNM Law provided, not only the legal education, but the relationships, leadership opportunities, and sense of responsibility to our broader community. I hope to honor that foundation by leading with integrity, curiosity, collaboration, and service, and by continuing to invest in the next generation of New Mexico lawyers who will carry this profession forward,” said Block-Chavez.
