Raquel Montoya-Lewis Appointed Superior Court Judge in Washington State

Washington State Governor Jay Inslee appointed Raquel Montoya-Lewis to a seat on Whatcom County Superior Court, making her Washington’s only sitting Native American Superior Court judge. Montoya-Lewis was sworn in on Friday, January 16th in the council chambers of the Whatcom County courthouse and began her term on January 20, 2015.

Montoya-Lewis taught Legal Writing at the UNM Law School from August, 2000 until July 31, 2003. She is originally from the Pueblo of Laguna and Pueblo of Isleta tribes in New Mexico and holds a BA from UNM in Arts and Science.
