University of New Mexico School of Law second-year law student Jessica Martinez and third-year law student Luis Sanchez are the newest recipients of Hispanic National Bar Association (HNBA) Scholarship Awards.

The HNBA has selected these students to receive $5,000 2019 Hispanic National Bar Association Vision in Action (HNBA/VIA) Scholarships for the 2019-2020 academic year. The HNBA/VIA Scholarship was established to recognize outstanding achievements by Hispanic law students.

Scholarship Committee members Catherine Romero, Julia Lopez, Bryan Browning, Bernadette Lopez, and Anna Maria Tejada expressed to our students that their many achievements, hard work, determination, and dedication not only to their studies but also to their families and communities, contributed to being selected for the scholarship. According to the committee, the HNBA/VIA Scholarship should both recognize the recipients’ achievements and support their educational pursuits toward becoming practicing attorneys.

Recipients were invited to meet the committee members and to participate in HNBA events in the future.

The HNBA also offers some great programs for law students such as the Uvaldo Herrera Moot Court Competition, law student mentoring programs, and opportunities for engagement through the HNBA Law Student Division and the HNBA Young Lawyers Division.
