Professor Martin Presents on Impact of Transactional Clinics
April 27, 2011
Professor Nathalie Martin presented a paper titled, "Transactional Clinics' Impact on Social Justice Issues" during a panel discussion at a mid-April conference organized by Northwestern University School of Law. The Chicago event was the 10th Annual Transactional Clinical Conference.
In her presentation, Martin addressed how and why a clinic might go out of its way to pick cases that have a positive social justice impact. Some examples she pointed to were cases that involved nonprofits, green businesses, minority-owned businesses, the environment and clients in an underserved group. She discussed the selection process, along with issues that could arise in such cases, including political impediments, cultural and language barriers and funding issues.
The conference was underwritten by the Kauffman Foundation.
