Margaret Montoya Awarded Prestigious CUNY Chair
January 9, 2008
UNM Law Professor Margaret Montoya has been awarded the Haywood Burns Chair in Civil Rights for 2008-09 at City University of New York School of Law. The Burns Chair is awarded to "leading figures in civil rights law, selected because they will inspire, empower, and enable a new generation of lawyers in the fight for racial justice."
Montoya will spend the spring 2009 semester at CUNY, which has long been recognized as one of the most innovative law schools in the country in terms of legal pedagogy, and which was founded with a commitment to social justice. The chair honors Haywood Burns, the school's second dean, who committed his career to equality and justice.
