On August 5, 2025, Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham announced her appointment of Kristopher Nicolas Houghton, a graduate of the UNM School of Law, to the New Mexico Court of Appeals. He succeeds Judge Kristina Bogardus, with his term extending until the next general election.

The School of Law welcomed 108 students to the Class of 2028 Orientation, which was held from August 13 to August 15. The event introduced incoming first-year law students to the academic expectations, professional standards, and community resources that will shape their legal education.

The State Bar of New Mexico’s 2025 Annual Meeting brought together attorneys, judges, and legal professionals from across the state for three days of education and networking at the Sandia Resort & Casino from July 31 to August 2. The event, themed “Together Towards Justice,” featured a schedule of Continuing Legal Education (CLE) sessions, keynote presentations, and opportunities to connect with colleagues.

Professor Emeritus Reed Benson Elected as an Honorary Trustee of the Foundation for Natural Resources and Energy Law

On July 16, 2025, at the Annual Meeting of the Trustees Council of The Foundation for Natural Resources and Energy Law (the “Foundation”), Professor Emeritus Reed Benson was elected as an Honorary Trustee of the Foundation for life for his contributions to the Foundation and to the larger community of those who practice in the areas of natural resources, energy, and environmental law.

UNM joins Brown University in national institute focused on intuitive, trustworthy AI assistants
