The Pre-Law Summer Institute (PLSI) Institute for American Indians and Alaska Natives is a two-month program that prepares American Indian and Alaska Native individuals for law school by simulating the first semester. The program prepares students for law school and hopes that it will increase the number of Native judicial clerks and judges. The Judicial Clerkship Program Panel was held this July and there were several UNM School of Law graduates that sat on the panel.

The panelists this year included Chief Justice Roshanna Toya, Isleta Pueblo Court of Appeals (PLSI 2016; UNM SOL 2019), Justice Raquel Montoya-Lewis, Washington Supreme Court (PLSI 1992, visiting professor at UNM SOL), Judge William C. Canby, Jr., US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, Alexander Mallory (PLSI 2016, Judicial Law Clerk for the Honorable Diane J. Humetewa), Kateri Eisenberg, Staff Attorney for the New Mexico Court (PLSI 2018, UNM SOL 2021), and Cody Jeff, clerk for Judge Jane Yohalem (PLSI 2019, UNM SOL 2022).

A dinner was held and the UNM SOL Indian Law Faculty and local Indian law practitioners were invited. It was a wonderful event!
