July 24, 2024
Regents’ Professor Jennifer Moore continues to use experiences from her field research in Uganda, Burundi, and Sierra Leone to shine a spotlight on the need for humanitarianism and human rights in her new book Women’s Work: Building Peace and Justice in War-Affected Communities of Northern Uganda and Sierra Leone. This publication will build on her previous work in the book Humanitarian Law in Action Within Africa and is set for release by University of Pennsylvania Press in 2025.
Humanitarian Law in Action within Africa, published by Oxford University Press in 2012, explored the impact of using humanitarian and human rights laws to address conflict resolution in countries recovering from lengthy civil wars. Written decades after peace agreements were negotiated between the governments of Uganda and Sierra Leone and their rebel movements, Women’s Work examines grassroots peacebuilding activities from the perspectives of the women who survived the wars and are now navigating the peace in their countries.
