associate director of admissionsThe School of Law is proud to welcome Myka Autumn Curtis, who joins the School of Law as the Associate Director of Admissions and Pathway Initiatives. In this role, she will support admissions growth, enhance recruiting, and expand outreach.

Curtis, a proud Diné and first-generation college graduate from San Juan County, New Mexico, recently earned her J.D. from the UNM School of Law. Before beginning law school, she completed the Pre-Law Summer Institute (PLSI) through the American Indian Law Center (AILC)—an experience she credits as being foundational to her legal journey. She later returned to PLSI as a teaching assistant for Legal Advocacy, where she mentored and supported incoming law students.

Grateful for the support and guidance she received throughout her academic path, Curtis looks forward to inspiring the next generation of students to pursue a legal education at the UNM School of Law. She hopes to continue creating pathways for others, just as mentors and institutions did for her.

“I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to give back to the UNM School of Law community that shaped me and to the students who will one day serve our state as attorneys. As a Diné woman, I carry with me the strength of my community and the inspiration of New Mexico’s many cultures. I am passionate about helping future law students see how their voices and experiences belong in the legal profession. I’m excited to walk with them on their journey from the very beginning,” shared Curtis.

The admissions team at the School of Law is dedicated to cultivating a diverse and inclusive student body while ensuring the success of each student. This commitment extends to developing and executing admissions strategies aimed at attracting the best candidates and offering pathway programs that support students from underrepresented or disadvantaged backgrounds.

Director of Admissions and Financial Aid Renée Ferrell shared, "I am beyond excited to welcome Myka to our team. As a student ambassador, she collaborated closely with the Office of Admissions, offering thoughtful guidance and mentorship to individuals navigating the often-intimidating admissions process. It was a true privilege to witness her journey from applicant to law school graduate, and I am proud to partner with her in this new capacity as we work toward our shared goals: supporting students and expanding access to the legal profession."
