Three United States Supreme Court cases this year consider the federal and state jurisdictional boundary in energy regulation.

Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) General Counsel Max Minzner will discuss these cases and their implication for the future of energy law and policy in “Supreme Energy: The 2015-2016 FERC Trilogy” on Sept. 29 at the UNM Law School.

The event is free and open to the public. The presentation begins at 5:15 pm with a reception to follow at the UNM School of Law. Free parking is available in the Law School “L” parking lot. Early registration is advised and is available online at gotounm.edu/minzner or with Laura Burns at 505.277.3253.

Minzner is a member of the faculty at the UNM Law School and former Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. In 2015, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) Chairman Norman Bay named him as general counsel to the Commission. Minzner previously served as Special Counsel to Bay in 2009 and 2010 when Bay served as director of the FERC Office of Enforcement.

“As an Associate Dean, Max was a committed mentor to others and a leader who served as an example of professional and scholarly excellence in teaching, and in service throughout the legal community,” says UNM Law School Professor Alex Ritchie.  “Max’s accomplishments and expertise have now led him to hold an important position in shaping the future of energy law and policy in the United States. We are extremely proud that he holds such a vital position.”

This program has been approved by the New Mexico Minimum Continuing Legal Education Board for 1.0 General hours of credit.

The event is co-sponsored by The UNM School of Law Natural Resources and Environmental Law Program and the Utton Transboundary Resource Center. The reception is sponsored by the State Bar of New Mexico Natural Resources, Energy and Environmental Law Section (“NREEL”).
