The 2025 Madrid Summer Law Institute
July 17, 2025
The Madrid Summer Law Institute (MSLI) is a unique opportunity for law students to immerse themselves in new legal, social, political, and cultural concepts. Students earn five law school credits in just one month, while also experiencing the rich culture of Madrid, Spain.
This year, the program welcomed 27 students. Professor Maryam Ahranjani, Professor Sherri Burr, Professor Paul Figueora, and Professor Alfred Mathewson taught in the program, directed this year by Professor Ahranjani.
During their time in Spain, students visited the Madrid Bar Association and learned about the process to become an attorney in Spain. They also visited Gobernación de la Communidad de Madrid, hosted by MSLI collaborator Professor Pilar Trinidad, who is currently serving as a political appointee as the deputy delegate to the governing body. Students were able to participate in a moment of silence to commemorate victims of domestic violence and honor the government’s commitment to eradicating gender-based violence.
The Madrid Summer Law Institute offers more than just classroom learning. It provides students with global perspectives on the law, meaningful cultural exchange, and lasting professional connections. The program leaves participants with a deeper understanding of international legal systems and provides a once-in-a-lifetime experience they will carry throughout their careers.
